In January, Democrats in each of the eighty Assembly Districts (ADs) of California will come together to elect twelve delegates to the Democratic State Central Committee, the body that comprises the California Democratic Party. Anyone registered in their Assembly District as a Democrat in time for the last election (10/23/06) is eligible to run as a delegate or vote in these elections. Typically, these elections have not been widely publicized and relatively few Democrats have participated in them. Furthermore, until this year, the times and rules governing the elections varied from Assembly District to Assembly District.
The aim of this site it to help Democrats in California understand and participate in the process of electing delegates in the upcoming Assembly District elections. We hope this site will make the process of electing delegates to the state party more transparent and more comprehensible to those unused to participating in the institutional activities of the California Democratic Party.
Furthermore, we hope this site will serve both candidates and the pool of voters by providing a more robust platform to disseminate relevant information about those running to represent the grassroots of the California Democratic Party.
